Paul Ehrenfest was appointed as successor of the famous Nobel Prize laureate and co-founder of modern physics Hendrik Antoon Lorentz. With his arrival the golden age of Dutch theoretical and low-temperature physics has been continued through the 1920’s, when also Albert Einstein became a regular visiting professor in Leiden. The home of Ehrenfest in the’ Witterozenstraat’ in Leiden developed into a meeting place where students and – often famous – international scholars mixed and exchanged ideas about the frontiers of quantum physics.
